A Senior Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineer is required to join the geotechnical engineering division operating from the company’s Norwich office, to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia, the south of England and further afield. Working as part of an established department of engineers on a range of ground investigation projects across East Anglia, the East Midlands and further afield. The company provides specialist information on ground conditions for projects in a range of sectors (commercial and residential developments, healthcare, education, energy, infrastructure, highways, flood alleviation and community projects).

As a minimum, candidates should have a degree in a relevant subject, a full UK driving license, excellent communications skills (both written and verbal), organisational skills and a keen interest in learning new skills.

The role will involve a combination of site and office-based work, predominantly based around the planning, operation, management and interpretation of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations. Graduate Engineers will be trained to undertake field tasks such as machine trial pit excavations, supervising borehole drilling, undertaking infiltration testing, ground gas monitoring, groundwater sampling, setting out with a GPS, and researching geological, hydrogeological, historical, topographical and environmental site information. You will also learn how geotechnical engineers provide foundation recommendations, advice on ground conditions, soil infiltration, advice for ground improvement and earthworks, undertaking stage one, two and three contamination assessments and remediation verification.

Candidates as a minimum should have a degree in a relevant subject and would typically have a master’s degree. Senior engineer candidates should be a chartered geologist or working towards chartership, be knowledgeable about soil mechanics and be well-practiced with routine geotechnical and geoenvironmental assessments, and hold a full UK driving license. With at least five years’ demonstrable experience in geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation, candidates for the position of senior engineer should have excellent communications skills and experience in collaborating with colleagues, supervising and helping to train less experienced engineers to provide advice and well-written reports on technical aspects of geotechnical engineering.

The role will involve a mixture of site and office based work, predominantly based around the specification, quoting, operation, management and interpretation of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations. The Cambridge geotechnical department is led by a principal engineer, with senior engineers (geotechnical and geoenvironmental) each responsible for helping and supervising a small team of engineers and graduates in their work.
