DATE POSTED: January 5, 2026POSITION: SENIOR GEOTECHNICAL/ GEOENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER
LOCATION: NORWICH
SALARY: Negotiable plus benefits
START DATE: As soon as a suitable candidate has been found
A Senior Geotechnical or Geoenvironmental Engineer is required to join the geotechnical engineering division, operating from the company’s Norwich office, to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia, the south of England and further afield. You will be working as part of a well-established department of engineers, on a range of ground investigation projects. The company provides specialist information on ground conditions for projects in a range of sectors (commercial and residential developments, healthcare, education, energy, infrastructure, highways, defence, flood alleviation, and community projects).
Candidates as a minimum must have a degree in a relevant subject, and would typically have a master’s degree. Senior engineer candidates should be a chartered geologist/scientist or working towards chartership, be knowledgeable about soil mechanics and be well-practiced with routine geotechnical and geoenvironmental assessments, and hold a full UK driving license. With at least seven years’ demonstrable experience in geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation, candidates for the position of senior engineer should have excellent communications skills and experience in collaborating with colleagues, supervising and helping to train less experienced engineers to provide advice and well-written reports on technical aspects of geotechnical engineering. Your knowledge and experience should include soil mechanics, confidence in providing foundation recommendations, soil/groundwater/ground gas risk assessments, supervising/undertaking trial pits, boreholes and other field techniques, and experience as a line manager. Other related experience is welcomed.
The role will involve a mixture of site and office-based work, predominantly based around the specification, quoting, operation, management, and interpretation of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations. The Norwich geotechnical department is led by a principal engineer, with senior engineers (geotechnical and geoenvironmental) each responsible for helping and supervising a small team of engineers and graduates in their work, working collaboratively with the whole department, and other parts of the company.
