We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for an internship in our Norwich office. The role will involve time in our geotechnical engineering and data management departments, which offers a superb opportunity to gain experience in the field, managing data, producing records, plans and 3D models, as well as undertaking fieldwork, monitoring, being shown how we assess the data and provide advice for our clients. Both departments are located in our Kimberley Street office, near the centre of Norwich.
Candidates would be based in our Norwich office for up to one year (the commencement and duration can be flexible to suit your needs), to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia and further afield. The role would be supervised by experienced engineers and technicians, will include full training in all aspects you may be involved in.
In previous years students have enjoyed involvement in a mixture of site and office based work, including field tasks such as machine trial pit excavations, borehole drilling, infiltration testing, ground gas monitoring, groundwater sampling and undertaking research for geological, hydrogeological, historical and topographical site information. You will also learn how engineers provide advice on ground conditions, foundation recommendations, soil infiltration, undertaking stage one, two and three contamination assessments and validating remediation projects. This year, we would like to also offer working with our award-winning data management team, helping to create borehole, trial pit and other fieldwork and monitoring records for engineers from each of our offices, using Excel add-ins connected to Bentley Systems’ HoleBASE SI software. The role will also include learning to produce drawings and plans using HoleBASE SI software as well as producing detailed plans and 3D models in AutoCAD and QGIS to share with our clients.
To be considered for the role of geotechnical technician (intern) candidates should be part way through an undergraduate or graduate degree (e.g. Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Science or a related degree), be proficient with standard computer software, with a good knowledge of programmes including Excel, Word and ideally AutoCAD and GIS software, have a full UK driving licence, excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) and a keen interest in learning new skills. Training and supervision will be provided for fieldwork, monitoring and using specialist software (e.g. AutoCAD and QGIS) where appropriate.
