A Trainee Geotechnical Site Technician / Driller / Labourer is required to join Harrison Testing Services based in Norwich, to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia and further afield.

Candidates as a minimum should have numeracy and literacy to GCSE grade C or equivalent. In-house training will be provided, with the potential opportunity to progress to a NVQ level 2 Technician.

Candidates must have a clean driving licence and ideally be a minimum 21 years of age for insurance purposes, you should also be hard-working and not afraid to get your hands dirty.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Working on-site, collecting soil samples and performing in-situ testing to obtain ground information for use in the design of foundations for structures and assessment of ground contamination.

Sample handling, storage and disposal, specialist ground drilling, breaking-out ground, hand-excavation of trial pits and undertaking in-situ testing, including:

  • Window Sampling
  • Dynamic Probing
  • Plate Bearing Testing (PBT)
  • California Bearing Ratio testing (CBR)
  • Density testing
  • TRL Probe testing
  • Light Weight Deflectometer testing (LWD)
  • Shear Vane testing

A Graduate Geotechnical /Geoenvironmental Engineer is required to join the geotechnical engineering division operating from the company’s Norwich office, to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia, the south of England and further afield.

As a minimum, candidates should have a degree in a relevant subject, a full UK driving license, excellent communications skills (both written and verbal), organisational skills and a keen interest in learning new skills.

The role will involve a combination of site and office-based work, predominantly based around the specification, operation, management and interpretation of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigation. Graduate Engineers will be trained to undertake field tasks such as machine trial pit excavations, supervising borehole drilling, undertaking infiltration testing, ground gas monitoring, groundwater sampling and researching geological, hydrogeological, historical, topographical and environmental site information. You will also learn how geotechnical engineers provide foundation recommendations, advice on ground conditions, soil infiltration, undertaking stage one, two and three contamination assessments and remediation verification.

Harrison Group Environmental are seeking Geotechnical /Geoenvironmental Engineers to join successful teams operating from our Norwich, Cambridge and London offices, to work on a range of site investigation projects.

Candidates should have a degree in a relevant subject and two to six years previous site investigation experience in the UK. The roles will involve a combination of site and office-based work, predominantly based around the specification, operation, management and interpretation of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigation.

Good project management and report writing skills are essential as is experience in the assessment of geotechnical issues affecting the planning and construction of structures and associated infrastructure. Experience in the planning and implementation of contaminated land investigations is also required along with a working knowledge of undertaking qualitative risk assessments within the UK regulatory framework, providing ground improvement advice and remediation options. More experienced candidates may have knowledge of quantitative (groundwater and human health) risk assessments, remediation options appraisals, remedial design and verification, and geotechnical assessments including slope stability and settlement.

  • BSc degree level qualified in geology/geotechnical engineering or a related environmental subject (essential)
  • MSc in a geotechnical/geotechnical engineering or environmental discipline (preferable, but not essential)
  • Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)li>
  • Be able to log samples to BS 5930+A2 technical standard
  • A working knowledge of the principal soil and rock strata encountered in the UK
