A Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineer is required to join the geotechnical engineering division operating from the company’s Norwich office, to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia, the south of England and further afield.

Candidates as a minimum should have three years of experience completing site investigations in the UK, a degree in a relevant subject, a full UK driving license, excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) and a keen interest in learning new skills.

The role will involve a mixture of site and office based work, predominantly based around the specification, quoting, operation, management, interpretation and reporting of geotechnical and contaminated land investigations and assessments for a variety of projects in different sectors. Engineers will work with a team of senior and graduate engineers, and be trained in any aspects they are unfamiliar with.   • BSc degree level qualified in geology/geotechnical engineering or a related environmental subject (essential)
  • MSc in a geotechnical/geotechnical engineering or environmental discipline (preferable, but not essential)
  • Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)li>
  • Be able to log samples to BS 5930+A2 technical standard
  • A working knowledge of the principal soil and rock strata encountered in the UK
  • The ability to interpret geological maps and published geological data
  • A basic understanding of water, ground and soil gas monitoring techniques

We are pleased to be able to offer students on a year in industry program the opportunity for an internship in our geotechnical department in Norwich.
Candidates would be based in our Norwich office for up to one year (the commencement and duration can be flexible to suit your needs, but is expected to start during summer 2020), to work on a range of site investigation projects across East Anglia and further afield. The role would be supervised by experienced engineers and include full training in all aspects you may be involved in.
The type of work would generally be a combination of geotechnical investigation and contaminated land assessment. In previous years students have enjoyed involvement in a mixture of site and office based work, including field tasks such as overseeing machine trial pit excavations, supervising drilling boreholes, completing infiltration testing, ground gas monitoring, groundwater sampling and undertaking research of geological, hydrogeological, historical and topographical site information. You will also learn how engineers provide foundation recommendations, advice on ground conditions, soil infiltration and undertake phase one and two contamination assessments.

A Data Management Technician is required to join the busy team in our Norwich office, to enter and manage data from ground investigations across East Anglia and further afield. You will help to produce records, tables, graphs and drawings used in the production of site investigation reports and assessments for all of our offices.

 

The Data Technician role is a full-time, office-based position, M-F 9am-5.30pm. Candidates would be based in our Norwich office on Kimberley Street. The role would be supervised by experienced Technicians and includes full training in all aspects you may be involved in.

 

Harrison Group specialises in ground investigation, collecting and assessing information for geotechnical and contaminated land assessments. The Data Management Team is integral to the process. The type of work would generally be a combination of preparing report-quality fieldwork records from site records provided by Engineers; managing chemical and geotechnical laboratory data; preparing site plans to Engineer’s specification; producing all records and drawings promptly and accurately, to the correct procedures and standards, and to the Engineer’s satisfaction.

 

To be considered for the role of Data Management Technician candidates as a minimum should have GCSE qualifications in at least 5 subjects including maths, science, ICT and English, with grades A-C, excellent communications skills (both written and verbal), above-basic Excel knowledge and a keen interest in learning new skills. A working knowledge of the AGS data format, the HoleBASE SI database system or CAD software would be beneficial, but is not essential.
